Problems with FAFSA?

If you have been trying to file your new FAFSA for this upcoming year on the www.fafsa.ed.gov, you most likely have been frustrated!!

I know I have, and I know what I'm doing when it comes to the forms and the website.  It took me twice as long to complete a file than normal.

The average person takes 8 hours to do this process and still gets it wrong. The U.S. Dept. of Education says that 90% of the FAFSA's that are filed have errors and  inconsitencies. No wonder people don't get any aid!

There are a few problems that I have seen so far with the new FAFSA site.

First, if you have Windows 7, then you are definitely having a problem. The system was not designed for the new windows version. You will have to wait a few days-1 week for them to correct the problem.

Secondly, the software is very slow. You have to wait 30 seconds-1 min for the software to update the data on every page. This is a pain to do and wait for when you trying to move to the next screen. The system will tell you that they are errors or that they are maintaining the site.  It may also kick you out of the screen. Make sure that you are saving the data that was entered in the system as a time saver.

If you are totally frustrated and want to give up there is help. I provide a service for frustrated parents who want to get things done right. If you want to get it done right the first time and you want to know strategies to lower your Expected Family Contribution, contact me.
